7 Vacation Destinations for Your Dog (Seriously)

Whether you’re heading out of town for the holidays or have a big vacation coming up, we have to ask: What are your plans for your dog?

Rather than board her in some old, unwelcoming kennel, give her a little vacation of her own.

Here, seven places in and around Dallas that are less of a boarding house and more like a spa retreat for our best furry friends.

Barney’s Ranch

Located in Carrollton, Barney’s offers spacious corrals for individual dogs or siblings, and free run of an 8,000-square-foot play yard. There’s also a certified vet tech on site at all times and weekend drop-off and pickup.

Classy Canine Daycare

This all-indoor facility has webcams, private rooms and suites, and rubber flooring (not concrete like some) to keep your buddy safe and secure while you’re away. There’s very limited outdoor time here, but pups will enjoy plenty of climate-controlled indoor playtime.

Lone Star Dog Ranch

This true ranch in Anna has more than 31 acres of walking paths, a 20,000-square-foot fenced-in play yard and a swimming pool, and dogs are free to run from the indoor facility to the outdoors during their stay. Since Anna is a 50-minute drive from Dallas, Lone Star offers a shuttle service for $1 per mile each way.

Dee’s Doggy Den

This East Dallas spot offers multiple levels of suites, all of which are equipped with flat-screen TVs and webcams. But the real draw is the luxury suites–with names inspired by posh Dallas hotels (Furmont, Wagnolia, Anatail)–where dogs sleep in toddler beds flanked with nightstands and lamps. Just like home, right? Dee’s books up quickly, so call early for a reservation (especially around the holidays) or be ready to offer a higher rate to guarantee a place for your dog.

Paradise 4 Paws

Paradise 4 Paws

Conveniently located near DFW airport, Paradise offers airport parking and shuttle services ($10 extra). During her stay, your pup can lap it up in the bone-shaped indoor pool or relax with a therapeutic massage (to ease the anxiety of being boarded). Side note: Paradise splits all guests into small (under 25 pounds) and large dog groups so playtime is fair and safe.

Lucky Dog Premier Daycare Ranch

A boarding ranch that specializes in large dog breeds, Lucky’s offers cage-free sleeping areas, daily six-mile walks and 23 acres of fenced-in play areas for lots of outdoor playtime. This place doesn’t allow tougher breeds like pit bulls and Rottweilers, so you know your fur baby will be safe and secure.

Tail Waggers Country Inn

Located in Van Alstyne (50 miles north of Dallas), Tail Waggers offers chauffeured limo service to and from your home ($25 extra), 34 acres of fenced ranch land to run around on and a pond, lake and pool for pups to take a dip in. The indoor facilities will make your dog feel right at home with couches, TVs and a cuddle-friendly staff. Have a cat too? No worries–Tail Waggers offers a separate cattery featuring a seven-foot aquarium.
